Meranti isn't mahogany!

Meranti is a type of wood very often mistaken with Mahogany especially Red Meranti. Although sometimes the characteristics and appearance are similar to true Mahogany, it is completely different species. Meranti has many classes depending on the origin and characteristics. The most popular one is White (with the least density!). Dark and Red class Meranti are the most valued.

Meranti is a hardwood from Shoreoa family which comes mainly from Malaysia and Indonesia. The class of Meranti depends on its weight which varies from 300 to 1 000 kg/m³. Similar class to Pine wood Meranti achieves only when the weight is above 450 kg/m³. The best characteristics of windows made of Meranti are achieved with the highest density of Meranti. You can tell the difference between high and low density Meranti also by nice and smooth surface and uniformed dark colour. Generally Meranti is very stable and resistant to moisture which results in minimum probability of cracking.

Therefore Drewexim manufactures windows and doors of high quality Meranti with high density (Shorea sp.: 400 - 750 kg/m³) but also offers real Mahogany (Sipo or Sapele: 610 - 680 kg/m³).
